Extremely Disappointed with TWC – Poor Communication, Substandard Workmanship, and Ongoing Issues
We chose TWC as a local company who said they used their own staff. They were not the cheapest but we wanted a good job. The window fitters and the renderers TWC used for our job were not directly employed by TWC – a lie from the very start.
The windows are a good quality and better than some others we had from a different supplier a few years ago.
From the outset, the process was riddled with delays and miscommunication. I was told by both the sales team and surveyor that my windows would be installed during the week commencing January 6th. They didn’t arrive until the following week, forcing me to rearrange work commitments. What was promised to be a 1.5-day job stretched across four separate days just for the window install and then two further days for rendering and multiple visits to rectify fitting errors.
The installation itself was subpar: poor rendering with large cracks, scratched trims, missing sealant, oversized trims, and windows that didn’t close properly. Some windows were even the wrong size. While the installations manager acknowledged the issues and promised a discount and proper snagging, the follow-through was chaotic, and I was invoiced for the full amount.
Fitters returned without knowing what needed fixing – they hadn’t been told by the office. Renderers showed up unprepared, without a ladder, used the wrong materials, and left a hired tower and waste on my drive for weeks.
Despite all this, and without the correct sized windows being installed I was sent an invoice for the full amount. After pushing back, I was offered a mere £200 discount, which I rejected. A surveyor came to inspect the works and remeasure the windows. They agreed the work was poor, noticed further issues and, we agreed on a £350 discount to recognise the undersized windows and to make good the work.
Even then, the problems continued. Workers arrived without proper instructions or materials. Renderers failed to show up on scheduled days, causing inconvenience to me and my neighbours. When they did return, they left a mess and didn’t complete the job. I later found out they had no intention of finishing due to supposed access issues - none of which were communicated at the time.
A director at TWC then came to inspect the work given the final bill hadn’t been paid. They agreed there was still further work to be done, wrote a report outlining some of the issues and offered a discount of a further £400 for me to accept the rendering as is. I did this given I have little faith that they would be able to do the work to a suitable standard and to end this ordeal.
We gave multiple chances for TWC to rectify issues and would have been happy if they had but the lack of ownership and continued issues shows that when something doesn't go right they are unlikely to be able to resolve.
The entire experience has been marked by poor communication (particularly between the office and the trades), lack of coordination, and substandard workmanship. I would strongly advise others to think twice before using TWC. I will not be using them again and only hope I don’t need to use the warranty.
