Reviews Summary

The overall sentiment toward Scratch & Patch’s pet insurance service is strongly negative, as highlighted by repeated frustrations expressed across most customer reviews. Reviewers consistently note issues with claim denials, low reimbursement amounts, and unexpected policy restrictions. Instances where customers faced high out-of-pocket costs during difficult times, such as a pet's passing or emergency treatment, are recounted frequently. Although there is one positive experience citing efficient processing and payment, this is a clear outlier amid significant criticism.

Common feedback includes dissatisfaction with internal policy “limits,” denied claims, and poor clarity on coverage—particularly around euthanasia and emergency care. Complaints about cancellation fees and customer service interactions were also noted. Customers emphasize the importance of reading policy details thoroughly, as many discovered significant exclusions or caps only when making a claim. Most reviewers experienced these issues when seeking support for dogs in the UK.

Overall, Scratch & Patch is regarded as offering pet insurance that often fails to meet expectations in the UK market, especially during critical moments. The majority of reviewers express regret and caution others about insufficient coverage and claim experiences. While one customer reports a seamless process, the company’s overall reputation is impaired by recurring complaints regarding limited payouts, fine print details, and unsatisfactory service interactions.

Deeply disappointed — wouldn’t recommend We were shocked by how little our policy actually covered. After our beloved dog Jack passed away, we were told that out of a £3,500 vet bill, only £40 would be reimbursed due to various internal policy limits. We were so disheartened that we didn’t even bother submitting the claim. Unsurprisingly, we decided to cancel the policy we held for our other dog — it felt pointless to keep paying for something that offered so little support when it really mattered. To add insult to injury, we were then charged a £30 cancellation fee, despite never having made a claim on that policy. I strongly advise anyone considering this company to look elsewhere for pet insurance.

We have unfortunately had our dog insured with this company for 4 years and the one time we made a claim it was declined. I doubt they had enough time to review our claim and agree with others that I'm sure they decline claims more than they will cover them. Please do not waste your money, Plenty of better dog insurance companies are out there. Sadly I only know this when I have moved our insurance due to this Shoddy company.

New to scratch and patch this year - policy appeared good however when we made a claim after our Staffordshire bull terrier became lame the “inner limits” were implemented and so we were left with a £4500 vets bill which scratch and patch contributed £400 to. Please check your inner limits so you are not left out of pocket like we have been - won’t be recommending scratch and patch to anyone in the future.
