Reviews Summary

The overall sentiment expressed in customer reviews for Purely Pets pet insurance is predominantly negative, with most reviewers raising significant concerns about claim denials, premium hikes, and customer service. While one or two reviews offer positive feedback regarding claim processing ease and helpful staff, the majority detail frustrations such as lengthy delays and perceived lack of empathy during stressful times. Recurring criticisms also mention poor digital interfaces and inflexible company policies.

Frequent themes include disputes around pre-existing condition exclusions, difficulty contacting the company or receiving responses, and dramatic increases in renewal prices even after few or minor claims. Customers cite challenges with the online account system, dissatisfaction with resolution times, and a lack of loyalty to long-term policyholders. Some complain about having to navigate complex policy rules or being required to cancel and reapply to access more favorable rates.

Overall, Purely Pets is viewed by most reviewers as unreliable and unsupportive in the UK pet insurance market. Experiences with inconsistent claim outcomes and ongoing communication hurdles have damaged trust, with some customers feeling compelled to seek alternative providers. Prospective customers in the UK should be aware of these trends when evaluating pet insurance options.

Last year our gorgeous girl underwent surgery to have a lump removed from her back, prior to this we had taken her to our local vets as the area had lost fur and we were concerned, we were told multiple times that this wasn’t anything to worry about by our vet practice, we had the surgery completed in May 2024 as the lump had grown which when it was removed was also sent for testing which devastatingly came back as a mass cell tumour and very aggressive, we had never claimed on our insurance so submitted our first claim with purely pets. After many weeks of stress back and forth they declined our claim and stated this was due to a pre-existing condition, how can this be classified as a pre existing condition when we didn’t know this was serious until the lump was removed and sent for testing? Purely pets had zero compassion and empathy for the horrific news we had received, we had also been told at this point due to the nature of the cancer Bella had that it could have spread / return. Yesterday due to a new growth we attempted a 2nd surgery which unfortunately Bella didn’t make it through, We would of always paid the costs for our beloved dog but I want people to understand that having a policy with Purely Pets is a complete waste of time and money and they will do anything to get out of paying a claim even when your world is falling apart, but I understand some peoples circumstances would rely on their insurance policy, which you will get no reassurance from purely pets. Please save your money and go elsewhere and get a insurance policy with a business that actually cares about pets And as for purely pets here is a picture of our gorgeous girl that you denied to cover her treatment We will miss you forever Bella

Please do not engage with this company, I held a policy for 13 years and on having 1 banking mishap have had my policy cancelled for a 14 year old dog. Emails take on average 22 days for a reply and the number is a minimum of 35 mins to get help. There is absolutely zero customer service or care factor from the team. Ross Barrington the MD should be ashamed of the organisation. The claim, your peace of mind. I have had nothing but a headache since trying to get their support.

Extremely disappointed with Purely Pets. After one claim since starting with them and no claims at all this year, they’ve still almost doubled my renewal premium with no valid explanation. I fully expect it’ll double again next year, when does it end? I understand premiums can rise after a claim, but this kind of increase, even after a claim-free year, is completely unjustified. It feels like a company taking advantage of loyal customers who simply want to do the right thing for their pets. The online system is awful, you can’t view your documents properly on a phone, and I’ve had to ring up multiple times just to get basic paperwork emailed over, which is ridiculous in 2025. To make matters worse, once my dog turns 6 (next year), they’ll start deducting 20% from every claim as a co-payment, making the policy less worthwhile right when you might need it most. I’ve decided I’d rather save the money myself for my dog’s care than line this company’s pockets any further. If you can afford it, start putting money aside in a savings account the moment you get a pet and avoid this company altogether. It’ll save you a lot of frustration, money, and phone calls in the long run. Purely Pets have made it very clear that loyalty counts for nothing, customer service is average at best, and their pricing strategy is a never-ending money grab. I would not recommend them to anyone.
