Reviews Summary

Customer sentiment for MetLife Pet Insurance is mixed, with several reviewers noting both positive and negative experiences. Many customers describe issues with claims processing, including delays, communication gaps, and denied claims—especially regarding preexisting conditions or miscommunications about coverage details. However, specific staff members such as Gloria, DeVante, and Terry receive individual praise for their responsiveness and effectiveness in resolving issues and following up on claims. The presence of negative experiences is counterbalanced by a handful of cases where problems are resolved satisfactorily when escalated to the right representative.

Common themes include inconsistent customer service, the importance of persistent follow-up, and satisfaction when claims are ultimately paid out. Several reviewers highlight smooth claims submission via the app or online, prompt reimbursements, and comprehensive coverage offered in some policies. Conversely, frustration arises from lack of transparency, unclear coverage rules, and difficulty adding or claiming for additional pets. The company's operational process—particularly regarding communication and documentation requirements—is a frequent point of feedback.

Overall, MetLife Pet Insurance garners a reputation for useful coverage and seamless processes in successful cases, but is also associated with slow claims processing and occasional communication failures. In the U.S., repeat customers cite satisfaction when the claims process functions as promised. However, continued improvement in agent training and claims clarity appears necessary to ensure a consistently positive reputation in the competitive insurance market.

Typical insurance company taking your money and not paying out claims. Adopted my princess because she had heart worms and couldn’t find a home. I understand why they wouldn’t cover the heart worm treatment because of preexisting issues, but had her looked at the day of adoption and they found mammary bumps. Obviously, bit the bullet and took immediate action. They told me this was also preexisting. I should have waited a day after adoption to care about Derby. After speaking with their rep, she basically has to get hit by a car for anything to be covered because of her crappy previous owner. Don’t worry though, they made sure to have an agreement for their services to be offered after adoption. She is priceless and will spend whatever it takes to but stay away from these crooks. They bugged my vet for notes. To the point, my vet called me bothered by them! They just want to build a case so they don’t have to payout. Fun fact: Insurance companies train their employees how to sell every plan and how not to pay out. I only know because of working in this slimy industry in the past. Thought I would give them a shot but hope they go out of business. My employer used them in the past for life insurance and other services but we dropped them because of their ignorance. Shop around and don’t fall for MetLife! I will add a picture of my beautiful girl. I hope you can feel my middle finger MetLife!

UPDATE April 7th, 2025 After a frustrating experience with poor communication and unfulfilled promises, I finally had a positive breakthrough. The first representative I spoke with said they would contact the claims team on my behalf, but when I followed up days later, it turned out no information had been passed on at all. Only after speaking with DeVante — who was professional, kind, and actually took action — did things finally move forward. Just a few days later, my claim was accepted and I was refunded the full $5000. While the beginning of this process was incredibly disappointing and stressful, I'm truly grateful that someone finally took my case seriously and resolved it properly. Thank you, DeVante — your help made all the difference. I hope the company works on improving the consistency of their customer service, because experiences like this one show how important it is to have the right people on your team. ____________________ I'm extremely disappointed with the way my recent claim was handled — and I strongly believe the denial had more to do with the amount involved than the actual facts. My cat, recently adopted and declared healthy, suffered a clear accidental leg fracture from a fall. The treatment cost nearly $10,000. Despite providing full veterinary documentation, my claim was denied with the excuse that “illness coverage wasn’t active.” This is completely unacceptable — there were no signs of illness whatsoever, and the injury was sudden and traumatic. This was clearly an accident, which should have been covered. It’s hard not to feel like the company deliberately avoided taking responsibility because of the high cost. Even worse, the claims team never asked for clarification or additional documentation before denying the claim. When I tried to follow up, I received vague, dismissive responses, as if they hadn’t even looked at the medical records. This experience has been emotionally and financially devastating. Instead of support, I was met with indifference. I adopted this cat to give him a better life — and when I needed help the most, the insurance I trusted failed me completely. I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone who values transparency, basic fairness, or compassion for animals and their owners.

MetLife has been a great decision for me and my two pitties. I was able to get a shared plan for the both of the them with a shared deductible. One of them has preexisting allergy issues, but the other is fully covered. I was able to get much needed dental cleanings, neutering etc and it was all covered. My only critique is that sometimes claims take a very long time to process for refund. I waited a month to hear back. But other than that, really great.
