Reviews Summary

Overall, customer sentiment for Big Cat Travel Insurance is mixed, with strong opinions voiced on both ends. Reviewers consistently note wide swings between efficient, compassionate claims handling and major frustrations with communication breakdowns, unresponsive support lines, and delayed claims processes. Many highlight individual positive experiences with staff such as Theo and Chris, appreciating professionalism and patience, while several customers experienced difficulties, citing convoluted processes, missed invoices, and a lack of accountability. There are also comments regarding the role of Claims Settlement Agencies Ltd (CSAL) in adding delays.

Common feedback includes appreciation for the flexibility of travel insurance policies, clear wording on coverage for adventure or extended travel, and smooth, quick payouts in some cases. On the other hand, recurring reputational concerns are tied to claims handling times, difficulty reaching support, and complicated communication—especially during emergencies or when abroad. Customers who received prompt responses or tailored service were especially positive, while those facing delays or missed reimbursements described added stress and financial instability.

In summary, Big Cat Travel Insurance garners both notable praise and pointed criticism, with service quality often hinging on specific staff interactions and the complexity of each case. For global travelers, particularly those engaged in long-term or adventurous journeys, the insurer is considered by many as a viable choice, but potential issues in claim resolution and communication should be weighed by prospective customers.

AVOID! Please take my word, you’re better off paying extra and going elsewhere. Not one to write reviews normally but my experience with this company was awful. No one picks up the phone on the normal line, you can try the emergency contact line which is 24 hours but that also NEVER ANSWERS. I’m lucky I didn’t get into a medical emergency travelling, because if I was I’d be in an awful situation as no one is available to help… it’s as if no one works there. I did try to claim but in the end they made the whole process so convoluted and difficult I decided to not bother - which I think is their goal. The online claims portal is terrible, barely has any options and when you do get it through DONT expect a response within a week, each time they do respond your case is passed to a different person so you have to start from square one. This is genuinely the worst insurance company I have dealt with, I had to extend while I was away and requested during the period my insurance was still ongoing - they took so long to reply I could no longer extend and then tried to force me to take out a NEW policy at an extortionate price. I decided not to, because having NO insurance while travelling is about as good as being insured by Big Cat. EDIT - as a response to their response: You’ve said: Phone lines open from 9:30-5pm. I’m aware of time difference and purposely adhered to this. Not a good idea to blame the customer for a companies shortcomings. My phone IS capable of international calls, it connected and said no one is available to take your call right now - NOT the definition of 24/7 emergency. If you respond to most emails on the day they are received, how come I have numerous examples of this statement being false and at times I’ve had to send multiple emails during a week to STILL get a delayed response. The policy lapsed but I notified you in plenty of time for me to extend, it was due to your tardiness and lack of communication it lapsed. You can’t write a standard response shirking all responsibility for being negligent and pass it onto the customer. I hope this response further guides other customers to make the right decision regarding holiday insurance. I decided to pay extra and use insurance through my bank account. Taking the exact same approach with them, I had issues which they guided me through with clear instructions, good communication and adequate advice and my claim was settled in days.

My partner and I are off on a motorbike trip for 4 months to Morocco/Europe and we have been searching for insurance to cover us for the duration of the trip. I contacted Big Cat Travel insurance and was spoken to by a very polite and professional staff member called Theo. Theo was very patient and discussed with me different policy options that best suited us. At no point did I feel like I was being upsold anything (I have found this a common practice with most insurers). The whole process was very efficient and the end result was a very reasonably priced quote. I have been purchasing travel insurance for motorbike trips for the past 10 years and I would suggest this was by far the most effective and professional company I have worked with. If anyone is in the market for travel insurance I would give Big Cat Travel Insurance a call! You will not be disappointed!

Terrible experience – avoid. I contacted the company right after my accident while I was still abroad. Got zero response. When I got back to the UK, I had to open a new claim. I submitted all the required documents, but they still missed several invoices and paid the wrong amount. I filed a complaint and followed up multiple times—silence. Only after I mentioned the Financial Ombudsman did they finally respond and pay the missing amount. Their website is useless: no updates, no tracking, nothing. The complete lack of communication and accountability made the whole process unnecessarily stressful. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone and won’t buy it again.
