Reviews Summary

Based on the provided customer reviews, the overall sentiment toward CarShield’s vehicle warranty service is overwhelmingly negative. Reviewers consistently mention issues such as denied claims, lack of transparency in the claims process, and ongoing charges or difficulty securing refunds when policies are canceled. Several customers report frustration with repeated communications and a lack of follow-through after policy termination. Some also criticize associated companies like CARCHEX and American Auto Shield for similar practices. A minority reference the company’s failure to honor coverage for substantial repairs, even after costly contracts are purchased.

The most prominent themes include complaints about claim denials for technicalities, prolonged and unclear claims processing, and poor customer support experiences. Many cite a pattern of customers being asked to cover repairs themselves despite having active warranty plans. Instances of aggressive billing and persistent marketing calls after cancellation are also regular points of dissatisfaction. No positive reputation-building factors emerge in the reviews across locations.

Overall, CarShield is regarded as a company with a poor reputation in the automotive warranty sector. Consistent negative feedback from reviewers raises major concerns about reliability, transparency, and fair customer treatment. Based on feedback from across the United States, potential customers are advised to closely review policy terms and cancellation procedures before purchasing such services.

DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THESE THIEFS! After SELLING the vehicle that I had the warranty on, I contacted CARSHIELD to say that I no longer owned the vehicle. I sold the vehicle 3 weeks prior but the date that I called was their billing date in which they charged my card for the UPCOMING MONTH. When I called, I thought it would be straightforward to let them know that I didn't own the vehicle and they would not charge my card for the upcoming month. To my GREAT SURPRISE, THEY REFUSED. I called 7 times and spoke to 7 different people and got the same result. TOUGH ON THE CUSTOMER IF THEY NO LONGER OWN THE VEHICLE THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY REGARDLESS UNLESS YOU CONTACT THEM BEFORE THE NEXT BILLING DATE!!!!!!!! I pay a lot of money in warranties and insurance and NEVER ONCE HAVE I HAD TO PAY FOR A WARRANTY OR INSURANCE on items the I no longer own!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had been a very loyal customer with CARSHIELD, but I will NEVER spend another dime with them again and neither should you!

Purchased the warranty. Car engine was having issues, I called car sheild to report and learn process, the representative told me if I can drive the car to drive it to shop..so I did, they tried to refuse the claim right off the rip, it needed a lifters and cam shaft, they authorized the repair up to 6000.00 but would not cover any future engine repairs because there could be metal shavings in the engine and they would not replace engine, I had to pay 4500.00 additional they said they would credit the 6000.00 award the replacement...now about a year later I had car towed to shop for air suspension problem and they will not cover the repair of compressor(internal short) due to the rear air bags looking worn..they will try to get out of any and all repairs. They are absolutely a scam. I can not stress enough to stay away from them, they tell you what you want to hear, never follow through...and I have the platinum package that covers luxury items ...they just suck bottom line

DO NOT BUY FROM CARCHEX OR American Auto Shield in Lakewood CO has been scamming me on my extended warranty when I purchased this saying that my engine was covered if it were ever to blow up or have catastrophic failure. It’s been over 2 months and my truck has been sitting in a shop blown up and they push off inspections and have only reached out to me 1 time in 2 months. They have never let me meet with the adjuster at the mechanic shop to show them the failure and always show up unexpectedly and now they’ve finally come out and say me and my mechanic have to demonstrate failure on a blown up engine after they said they wouldn’t cover it unless they tore the engine apart to show them the failed part. The engine is BLOWN up, it cannot be repaired or demonstrate failure because it’s blown up. The company always says they’re escalating this matter but no one ever calls me. They are scamming me and trying to run my patience out to give up on the claim. I have paid monthly $149 a month for this warranty for 6 months now and the engine replacement is $15,000+. The call center dodges me and my mechanic and makes up crazy words about the engine failure to try and deny the claim. After threatening to call an attorney and file a claim with the attorney general they finally escalated this claim. It’s a very suspicious denial.

Frequently Asked Questions About American Auto Shield

How does CarShield handle claims for vehicle repairs?

Customers submit repair claims for approval, but many reviews indicate delays, non-transparent communication, and frequent denial of coverage based on contract clauses. It's important to understand exclusions and documentation requirements before relying on coverage.

What happens if I sell my vehicle before my CarShield contract ends?

Several reviewers report continued billing or difficulty obtaining refunds even after notifying CarShield of a vehicle sale. Customers should ensure they formally cancel the policy before the next billing date and keep documentation of all communications.

Is there an app for filing CarShield claims, and does it work reliably?

Customers mention there is an app for document upload and claims submission, but reviews reflect ongoing technical issues and that documents may not be reviewed without persistent follow-up.
