ONLY ME rated Gulfgate Animal Hospital 5 stars

I’m not going to be cruel, because I understand that vet techs and vets do the best they can, and ultimately it’s about the comfort of the pet. The day before yesterday my senior dog had a coughing fit, she already has trachea collapse and my mother, frantic, went to the vet for help. The first recommendation was euthanasia. Considering her age, condition, etc. they recommended that we put Pom down. My mother was on the fence, rightfully so, as well as my father and I when we got up there.
My mother said no and decided to take her home. We were given meds that would assist in draining any fluid from the lungs and she was given a steroid shot for her trachea.
Pom ended up pulling through the night. We stayed with her, made sure she was comfy, gave her, her meds and we were prepared to be with her through her transition.
Today, Nov 26, I thank my mother for having second thoughts because Pom pulled through! She had a coughing spell and it could’ve been triggered by a number of things. My mother felt that the healthcare workers didn’t even give Pom a chance to recover or see how she would be overnight. It was almost an immediate jump to EUTHANASIA!!!
She had an appetite, she was tired from the coughing so she did sleep, and she was drinking water—after we left the vet. I’m writing this review to say, DO NOT let them pressure you into euthanasia if you’re honestly thinking of your dog, and you’re NOT being selfish about them being in pain, if you want to wait a few hours or overnight THAT IS FINE (certain things of course require immediate action and I’m not talking about that)! Because had we listened to needle happy and the crew, we’d be burying our family member of 14yrs!!!! So thank you MOM for giving Pom a chance because these lovely hard-working, animal loving ppl would’ve cut the cord QUICK!
Pom will be leaving naturally unless she absolutely has to be assisted. As of today she’s doing 100xs better than what she was, and I can’t express how happy we were that we waited. I wish we had the names of the tech and the vet because Pom has been going there for years and my mother has never seen these new needle happy workers, but I’m here to tell you that it’s okay to stop and think for your pet and for you.
Edit: she’s been going here for years. We actually love this place, and the prices are reasonable. That’s why I gave it 2 stars. There was an alternative (2 meds she gave us and a shot) other than euthanasia, that’s the issue I have. Don’t push such a big thing onto your clients when there are clear alternatives.
Pics: Blue blanket was of her after the vet Nov 24. I took one of her in the grass today Nov 26, around 4pm—-she looks and seems to feel so much better. I can’t express to you how glad I am that we decided to wait it out.
