Reviews Summary

Overall, the sentiment toward Navy Federal Credit Union skews negative, with reviewers citing troubling experiences, especially in recent years. While one long-term member lauds the bank’s convenience, rates, and military-friendly approach, most customers describe issues with customer service, dispute resolution, and policies. Repeated concerns include perceived disrespect from representatives and feeling unsupported during financial difficulties, leading to lost loyalty after decades of membership.

Common themes reflect dissatisfaction with customer service responsiveness and helpfulness, especially concerning fraud, disputes, fees, and account restrictions. Customers mention problem escalation, confusion over protocols, and negative interactions, including being blamed for fraud, having accounts closed abruptly, and poor communication about loan or deposit holds. Only a single review strongly emphasizes positives like reliability and respect for military families; the rest focus on breakdowns in support.

Based on these patterns, Navy Federal Credit Union’s reputation among reviewers is currently challenged, despite its strong legacy with military families. Trust and satisfaction have declined, with reviewers in the United States increasingly turning to alternative banks. Consistency in supporting long-time members appears to be a reputation risk highlighted by recent feedback.

I've been a proud member of Navy Federal Credit Union since 1985, and now both of my sons—who joined the Marine Corps in 2018—are members too. Over the years, NFCU has consistently provided excellent customer service, great rates, and the kind of military-friendly banking support you can trust. With more branches now open, it's even more convenient than ever. Whether you're active duty, a veteran, or part of a military family, Navy Federal is hands down the best bank for veterans and service members. Reliable, respectful, and always there when you need them.

I’ve been a member with Navy Federal for over 5 years, and recently have become disgusted with the service here. I was told point blank by a customer service representative that “It was my fault there was fraud on my account” and there was nothing they could do about it. Wow, talk about horrible customer service. As a veteran, you’ve done such a poor job of protecting my money. I’ve cleared out all of my savings to a different bank. Good riddance to you.

Boring that since NFCU has implemented their new protocols that the customer’s monies are affected. Attempted to make a withdrawal at an AFCU branch on a base, the App pinged me 3 x times (2: declined, 1: phishing) but customer service was no help and secure messaging was a joke. Terrible service NFCU!
