Reviews Summary

The overall sentiment toward Kensington Mortgages, as reflected in customer reviews, is predominantly negative, with recurring frustrations about transparency, shifting requirements, and prolonged processing times. While one reviewer describes a quick and smooth experience, and another notes helpful staff, most feedback centers on issues such as lack of clear communication, changing terms mid-process, and delays impacting major financial decisions like home purchases. Some customers mention distress and significant losses caused by these complications.

Common themes throughout the reviews include complaints about a lack of transparency in lending criteria, inconsistent communication—especially due to interactions only through brokers—and documentation requests that appear excessive or poorly coordinated. Delays are frequently cited, with several customers reporting missed property purchases or discounts due to drawn-out procedures. Customers seeking specialized products or with complex income situations express particular dissatisfaction with decision rationales, leading to uncertainty and stress.

Overall, Kensington Mortgages is regarded in the UK mortgage market as a provider that can process loans efficiently in some instances, but whose reputation suffers from recurrent complaints about clarity, responsiveness, and process reliability. For applicants with non-standard incomes or credit histories, the company’s stated flexibility is often reported as not matching actual experiences. Clearer criteria and more direct client communication could strengthen trust among prospective customers.

Went through them after being advised that they will look at one years books. (I'm self employed and my fiance is pregnant, hence the more urgent need to find a house). Initially accepted us on a 400k mortgage and then told us we can only lend 325 and then changed it again to 306k after suddenly revealing to the broker they cap certain products at 75 percent. We accepted that and was everything was going fine and put an offer on a house and paid for them to start their checks. Gradually however they asked for more and more information regarding business bank accounts. Basically they wanted 2 years accounts. I'm not yet at the end of my year 2 financial year but I gave them what I had regardless, including outstanding invoices due to be paid this financial year. They then asked to wait until all my invoices have been paid, basically taking me to the end of my second financial year. Therefore in reality they wanted two year accounts they are just deliberately dishonest. My pregnant fiance has been put through the ringer because of their lies and lack of transparency. I have no defaults and an excellent credit history and my business is turning over six figures. It's an absolute disgrace the way they treated us and I would advise EVERYONE, never use this company.

As the title suggests. Was stuck in mortgage hell with Kensington for months. Broker wouldn’t go with another lender. 10% deposit agreed. Finally come back to us wanting 25%. These guys are the worst. How can anyone buy a property under these circumstances. It takes weeks for them to even answer a question. If your broker suggests them, run a mile. We have just lost our second house purchase in 4 months because of Kensington. We have historical defaults from 2020 hence the specialist lender. Affordability fine, house hold income £100k. Stay away from them at all costs.

Disappointed Experience with Kensington Mortgages. My partner and I recently applied for a mortgage with Kensington through a mortgage broker. Unfortunately, we were informed yesterday that our application has been declined. However, we were not provided with any reason for this decision, which has left us feeling quite unsettled. When we called Kensington Mortgages to inquire about the reason for the rejection, we were told that they could only provide this information to our mortgage broker, not directly to us. However, when I contacted the mortgage broker, they informed me that, due to GDPR regulations, they are not allowed to disclose any information about the rejection. We strongly believe that, under the Freedom of Information Act and a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR), we are entitled to know the specific reason for the rejection. Understanding the rational behind this outcome is crucial for us to ensure there was no administrative error and to address any potential issues before we reapply in the future. Receiving this outcome without any further clarification has been extremely distressing, and the lack of transparency has only added to the frustration. We hope Kensington will provide more detailed feedback to assist us in understanding what went wrong and to guide our next steps.
