Got Charged for Cleaning Even After We Cleaned It Ourselves We rented an RV from Cruise America and returned it to the San Mateo, CA location after taking the time to do everything right. First, we fully emptied the blackwater tank, then flushed it with Dettol and Pine-Sol to disinfect it. On top of that, we wiped down the entire interior with wet wipes because the RV was extremely dirty when we got it, and we wanted to return it in better condition than we received it. When we arrived, we emptied the tank one more time and told the employee upfront that what came out was just cleaning solution—not waste. Despite our honesty, he still charged us $50 for dumping, and another $50 cleaning fee, claiming he had to clean “feces” that simply wasn’t there. The tank was already emptied and disinfected. This just felt like a lazy excuse to charge us more. We went out of our way to clean their vehicle, and they turned around and charged us anyway. On top of that, the employee had a terrible attitude. It felt like we were being punished for doing the right thing. Cruise America San Mateo—do better. You lost our trust.

Hi, we just returned the rv today. I’m appalled by the other reviewers that had a clean and nice RV experience. Our 30ft RV was not clean and it was rather beat up inside. This is a review for the San Mateo, CA site at the specified address. I’m not sure what happened, perhaps we got a beat-up falling apart RV versus whatever the other renters used. The RV we rented had: 1. duct tape on the floor, 2. dingy fan/heater (with very nasty air filters that had not been cleaned), 3. under the pullout couch there was gunk and junk that had not been swept, 4. the screen door was broken, 5. the side curtain rod on the bottom was loose and off the hinges, 6. the fridge would beep every single time we unplugged from the rv site, 7. the windshield wipers were old, 8. the bathroom fan has not been cleaned (ever), 9. They had the incorrect rearview mirror on one side (left vs right). 10. fridge panel was missing (all you saw was a metal door), 11. they should probably get the MAX AC checked because when we drove through the smoke areas it smelled terrible inside, when MAX AC should only recirculate the air and not pull from outside. Lastly, everything rattles inside, because the windows are poor and cheap materials are used. You can’t hear the driver/passengers/to people in the back. I would never rent from them again and definitely made me feel like Cruise America has gone downhill. It’s a shame this RV was only 2 years old, I could have sworn it was 20 years old because it was so beat up.

Very friendly service! Overall a great experience for a first time renter! They accommodated an early pickup and they handled any concerns quickly and professionally. The RV had a little wear and tear but we had no real problems. I got a sensor warning and they were willing to give me another RV. It turned out to be nothing and we made a 2000 mile trip without incident. Thank you San Mateo crew for a wonderful experience.
