Unsafe vehicles, misrepresentation, character slander – and they still tried to keep my money. I booked a Kia Optima or similar, a well established D segment saloon. Drivalia gave me an MG ZS 1.5 petrol, a B segment crossover that is two classes below by any industry standard metric (including MG’s own). Within 20 minutes, the car displayed a red brake system warning instructing me to stop immediately. The vehicle was unroadworthy and had to be recovered by roadside assistance. The roadside recovery company said that despite doing only 30,000 miles the pads were completely worn out. While waiting for low loader to come get me and the car I read the reviews here about multiple others expressing serious concerns about safety of their cars. Back at the Heathrow branch, Drivalia offered me another MG ZS same model, same spec, same problem waiting to happen. I declined, unsurprisingly. While waiting for a lift home, I witnessed another customer return a broken down vehicle. This didn’t feel like a car hire company, it felt like a holding pen for vehicles unfit for the road. Rather than apologise, Drivalia tried to rewrite reality. They claimed the MG ZS was a fair equivalent, and when I rightly challenged that, they accused me of inappropriate conduct, saying I was agressive because I didn't like the car I was originally given. I was firm and explained the car they gave me wasn't the same. The manager snatched the keys from me and I was even approached by another member of staff who tried to imply I was suggesting he didn't know how to do his job. A slanderous attempt to discredit me instead of addressing the issue. They then refused a refund and fought tooth and nail to keep the payment, even when the evidence against them was overwhelming. I took the case to the BVRLA (their own regulator), who largely sided with them despite acknowledging poor communication having complained through their internal process. This cost them £104.50 to challenge. The cost of the hire was £126. I then raised a chargeback with my bank. Drivalia still tried to block it. My bank reviewed the evidence and ruled in my favour. Full refund issued. The experience was stressful, time consuming, and completely avoidable. It exposed a company that: - Supplies substandard and unsafe vehicles - Hides behind internal classifications no one else uses - Attacks customers when caught out - Fights refunds instead of fixing their service If you value your time, money, and safety DO NOT go near Drivalia Heathrow. Book elsewhere. I did and went to another car hire company up the road who have been nothing but exemplery!

Adding my review to the AVOID AT ALL COSTS list. - We were delayed an hour due to issues on the train line. I tried calling them 3 times and nobody answered. -The shared bus runs every half hour and takes half an hour to get there. - So we arrived two hours late to find that there were no other customers. Great, this should be fast! - The initial rep was very helpful, directed me to the online checkin while she went to get the car - As I was doing that, another rep came back and said, I have some bad news, we only guarantee it for an hour, we don't have any of your class (mid-sized SUV). Our manager said all we have left are premium vehicles, that will be an extra £200. - I asked to speak to the manager. Some extra people tagged along with the manager, presumably to enjoy the show when I blew up. I said I did not want to do that, and he did say at least that he could cancel it completely and I could get my credit from the aggregation portal I paid through. - The original nice rep did so and apologized: "sorry about that, we have bad management... oh, not him" - Oh, and the deposit was going to be £2500. Glad I dodged that bullet. So then I did what others here have done: walked to the very professional Enterprise 5 min up the road, who did everything they could to put me in a suitable car for less than the premium fee alone. On the way out of Drivalia, I counted at least 10 cars that fit what I originally booked (see photo). If you read all these reviews, it seems these guys have a scam going, possibly from head office: they hope you're late (likely due to the bus alone), put you on the spot for some extra cash, and enjoy the show when you melt down. Bad, bad, bad.

What a horrific experience. Waited 1 hour for the awful shuttle bus, while Drivalia Heathrow refused to pick up any of my calls to ask for advice ...However I arrived 10 mins before closing time, after trying to ring several times for advice and them failing to pick up. On arrival, Aleena refused to give me a car as she was going home early, leaving the building before closing time. She then falsely claimed that I was a no show (even though I arrived with 1 hour of booking time and before closing time), falsely claimed I hadn't paid (I had paid in full) and cancelled my booking leaving me with no car. Unbelievably, she then emailed attempting to almost double the price the next morning!!!!! I complained to head office and they confirmed that I should have been given my car, as I arrived before closing time and within 1 hour of my booking time. I was left in tears late at night with nowhere to go and had to pay £22.70 for a Bolt, even though I had booked a car. It was horrific and surreal. I cannot believe they are allowed to get away with this conduct from staff. While I was there another woman was practically in tears next to me, trying to get money back that she said they took out of her account. They tried to add on huge fees and take a massive deposit. The car they gave me was covered in scratches, dents and dirty inside. I am now tired, stressed and £22.70 out of pocket. I am afraid they will try to scam me again when I return the car, as many customer reviews are saying that Drivalia make false claims of customer damage. What a horrible experience

Reviews Summary

Customer sentiment toward Drivalia’s car rental service at Heathrow is overwhelmingly negative, with numerous reviewers reporting issues such as vehicle safety concerns, misrepresentation of booking categories, and poor customer service. Consistent complaints cite unroadworthy cars, long wait times, and aggressive or unhelpful staff behaviors. A small minority described professional conduct and efficient pickup, but these are exceptions. Criticism is particularly sharp regarding communication failures, unexpected fees, deposit handling, and lack of accountability from management.

Common themes across reviews include logistical problems like unclear or inadequate shuttle service, booking mix-ups resulting in unavailable vehicle types, and unsatisfactory responses to complaints. Several customers experienced difficulty recovering deposits or compensation, and dissatisfaction with the physical condition of vehicles was frequently noted. However, there were isolated positive notes about staff professionalism and car upgrades, with two reviewers specifically commending particular team members and the clarity of information at check-in.

Overall, Drivalia’s reputation in the Heathrow area, as reflected in these reviews, is significantly challenged by recurring issues of trust, transparency, and service standards. While some customers had smooth rentals, the prevailing perception suggests a risk of unpredictable or frustrating experiences, especially for those needing reliability and accountability from a car rental provider in the UK.
