Reviews Summary

The overall sentiment in reviews for American Intercontinental University (AIU) is predominantly negative, with most customers detailing dissatisfaction regarding the online education provided. Reviewers consistently note concerns about aggressive recruitment tactics, high costs, poor communication, and lack of transparency about credit transfers and financial aid. While isolated positive experiences reference supportive staff or accelerated programs, these are outweighed by several substantive complaints, including unresponsive administration and unmet expectations regarding educational quality.

Frequent themes include persistent issues with financial aid, challenges with credit transfer to other institutions, pressure during enrollment, and outdated or insufficient instructional materials—some reviewers mention coursework centered around free online videos. Additional criticisms target the company's customer service practices, describing generic responses and unhelpful communication from both advisors and financial staff. Only a minority of users report helpful professors, strong advising, or describe earning a degree as a positive outcome.

Overall, American Intercontinental University’s reputation among these reviewers is mixed at best, with significant negative sentiment from both former and current students across the United States. Trust concerns center on value for tuition, administrative follow-through, and transferability of credits. While a few positive experiences exist, the prevailing perception is cautionary, highlighting operational and systemic challenges potential students should research thoroughly.

This school is a complete scam. I enrolled at AIU thinking I was investing in a real education and a better future. Instead, I was left with over $13,000 in debt, no degree, and no real instruction. The “education” consisted of watching free YouTube videos— something I could’ve done on my own without taking out loans. What they don’t tell you is that AIU and its parent company Career Education Corporation settled a $5 million lawsuit for deceptive marketing, aggressive recruitment, and poor education standards — and I was enrolled while that was happening. They never once disclosed this. They lied about job placement support, transfer credits, and the quality of the program. Everything they promised was either exaggerated or flat-out false. I was misled and taken advantage of. Please do your research before considering this school. I’m sharing my experience so others don’t fall into the same trap I did.

I am currently enrolled here and have nothing but problems with my financial aid and my stipend. The told me last month in June I should receive my stipend. Now July and they keep saying becuase of mistakes on our end now I got an email back saying I have to wait now until 8/18/2025 to get my stipend becuase of errors and mistakes on their end. So long story short i got to college full time, I'm disabled I don't have much money so I go to school thinking I'll have some help and now it's going on 90 days I'll have to go without receiving my stipend. Just very very ppor communication skills from the financial aid department. I've sent emails and everything asking for exclamations and reasons. And I just keep getting the same generic excuses and lies and no effort or communication to try to resolve the issue very disappointed so far with my results of the school.

This place is a scam. The amount of phone calls you get from this school is insane. They pressure you to get your consent to start classes with no real guidance and radio silence after you have enrolled and sign your life away. When you do have a question, you get the run around. A lot of "not my job" attitude. I was assured I would have no payments until I finished my Bachelor year In early 2026, but the first payment is now being requested for May 2025. I also hadn't even finished my associates degree and they were asking me about beginning my Masters with them! They are money hungry and anybody you talk to on the phone is as well equipped as a Quality Assurance agent for a call center. The instructors really try and do their jobs and that's the only nice thing I have to say about this school. The coursework is often outdated and the discussion board posts are ridiculous. There was one dude in one of my (several) classes who would copy and paste transcripts from YouTube videos as their discussion board post. How this wasn't considered plagiarism is beyond me. I feel like an idiot for joining this school. Imagine the episode of King of the Hill where Peggy becomes a doctor. That's basically what this school is. I would give 0 stars if I could. Try out a local community college before calling this dumpster fire. And if you do call you, be prepared to be harassed into enrolling.
