Reviews Summary

Sentiment about Traeger Grills is predominantly negative, as reflected in customer reviews. While a few reviewers acknowledge the brand’s popularity and potential for enjoyable backyard cooking, most express strong dissatisfaction with product reliability, customer service, and design shortcomings. Customers frequently mention mechanical failures, temperature inconsistencies, physical defects, and unfulfilled expectations. Although initial staff interactions are sometimes described as courteous, resolution is consistently ineffective, leaving users frustrated.

The most recurring themes include persistent equipment breakdowns, poor temperature control, and substandard smart features such as unreliable WiFi connectivity. Many users report the need for repeated repairs, inconvenient maintenance, ash buildup, and disappointment in new models compared to older units. Negative experiences with support processes—particularly a lack of practical solutions or goodwill from supervisors—feature heavily across multiple accounts. Several customers highlight issues with replacement parts, warranty processes, and the lack of accountability for high purchase prices.

Based on these reviews, Traeger Grills faces significant reputation challenges across its customer base. In regions where pellet grills are popular, including Montana, the brand is often associated with disappointment and regret, especially regarding its premium product lines. Repeat issues, ineffective support, and a perceived decline in quality all contribute to a weakened standing among consumers seeking reliable outdoor cooking solutions.

I used to think Traeger owners were the kind of people who smelled like hickory smoke and tasted like condescension. Every time someone mentioned “pellet grilling,” I’d roll my eyes so hard, all the while grilling on my sad little charcoal setup. But then I got a Traeger… and now I smoke meats like I’m hosting a Food Network competition in my backyard. I’ve accepted that I’ve become that guy; the one who talks about internal meat temperatures like it’s something sophisticated people only understand. My superiority complex is strong, but at least it’s well-seasoned. To everyone still using gas or charcoal grills: bless your little caveman hearts.

DO NOT BUY THIS GRILL UNLESS YOU ONLY INTEND TO COOK CHICKEN Model: TFB88PZB Serial Number: TFB88PZB-2305-HL-023645 I purchased this grill less than a year ago for Father’s Day, and I regret every penny spent. If you plan on cooking anything that takes longer than a few hours—especially larger cuts like pork butt or brisket—this grill will not get the job done. Unreliable for Long Cooks: Within 8 hours, ash buildup triggers a temperature error, shutting the grill down. If it’s an overnight cook, I have no idea when it actually cut off, and I wake up to an uncooked piece of meat. This has forced me to finish multiple cooks in my oven—something no one buys a pellet smoker to do. At this point, it’s actually more surprising when I get to finish a cook than when I don’t. Even Chicken Is a Gamble: Today, I tried to cook 15lbs of chicken, and the auger wouldn’t turn. I called customer service, and while they were helpful, by the time I actually got the grill working, the chicken would have been done already. This thing is unreliable even for simple cooks. Painfully High Maintenance: I exclusively use Traeger brand pellets, stored properly in a Traeger bin. The grill sits under a covered porch and is always protected with a Traeger-specific cover. Despite all of this, the grill requires a complete teardown mid-cook just to keep running. I literally have to remove my meat, take the grill apart, and use a shop vac to remove the excessive ash buildup—mid-cook! Cleaning between cooks is one thing, but having to do this during a cook is unacceptable. Temperature Issues Galore: • The built-in temperature probes are always inaccurate. • The grill temperature is always incorrect, making it impossible to trust what’s happening inside the smoker. A Simple Solution That Would Help - If this grill had a latch at the bottom to easily empty the ash instead of requiring a complete teardown, it would be much more usable. Having to take the entire grill apart mid-cook is beyond frustrating and could have been easily avoided with better design. Final Verdict I wish I had never bought this grill. It has been nothing but a headache, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. If you want a grill that actually works for low-and-slow BBQ, look elsewhere. Traeger seriously dropped the ball on this one.

During my research I found out that treaeger owns meater so I figured if my experience was anything like what happened with my "high end thermometer" I figured traeger should hear about it too. Purchased it around June of 2023 Jan of 2025 the probe pulled apart into two pieces while removing it from a roadt that was slow cooked for 5 hours on low temp. Called into customer service for meater and was told this is a common occurrence with the meater + if its dropped or exposed to high temps such as what its designed to be used for. Was also informed that the best solution would be to buy another. They had no intention of fixing the issue. Other flaws, if you intend to use this with the app the distance for it to connect is kinda of crappy couldn't go more then 100ft before it would disconnect and then the time measure would reset. At this point they are garbage go look at another brand that has better ratings
