Avoid This Hospital If You Care About Your Loved Ones This hospital is a disgrace. The majority of the staff are completely incompetent, leaving the few who actually care to pick up the slack. If you have a loved one with a serious condition like sickle cell, do NOT trust them to provide proper care. My partner was literally sent home with a prescription that had no medication written on it—how does that even happen? Patients are treated like a burden, and families are made to feel like they have to beg for basic care. I’ve had to take time off work just to make sure my partner is safe because I refuse to let them become another statistic due to this hospital’s negligence. Many before have died here because of the same lack of care. If you leave your loved ones in their sole care, you are risking their lives. This place needs serious reform before more patients suffer.

Barts Health NHS Trust has received mixed reviews from patients and regulatory bodies. Here's a summary ¹ ²: - *Care Quality Commission Rating*: Requires Improvement, with concerns in safety, effectiveness, responsiveness, and leadership. - *Patient Experience*: Patients praise staff kindness and compassion, but some report issues with communication and care quality. - *Specialized Services*: The trust excels in cardiology and cancer treatment, with notable achievements in heart disease care, such as a "door to balloon time" of 60 minutes, better than the national average. - *Challenges*: Staffing shortages, inadequate incident reporting, and poor compliance with mandatory training have been identified as areas for improvement. - *Awards and Recognition*: The trust has won awards for patient experience, including two prestigious prizes at the 2025 PENNA awards. Overall, while Barts Health NHS Trust faces challenges, it has demonstrated strengths in specialized services and patient care.

I had an extremely distressing experience at this hospital. The environment was unclean and the staff were unprofessional. Despite having a suspected broken foot, an open bleeding wound, severe pain, and breathlessness, I was not given a wheelchair, crutches, or any form of assistance. Instead, I was forced to walk. I experienced what felt like discriminatory treatment — I noticed certain patients being prioritised ahead of me based on background, while I was left waiting for hours. I had a panic attack in the waiting area, yet there was no care, compassion, or urgency shown. The nurses were dismissive and showed no concern for my injuries. This was one of the worst healthcare experiences I have ever had, and it has left me feeling traumatised. No patient should be treated this way.

Reviews Summary

Overall, the sentiment toward Barts Health NHS Trust, and particularly The Royal London Hospital, is predominantly negative based on customer reviews. Several reviewers cite poor staff competency, a lack of communication, dismissive or rude behavior, and concerning lapses in basic patient care and safety. Issues with appointment management and a lack of responsiveness are also highlighted, alongside some concerns regarding systemic failures. While one review notes the organization's strengths in specialized services such as cardiology, tangible positive patient experiences are rare in this sample.

Frequent themes include excessively long waiting times, inadequate handling of serious medical situations, neglect of vulnerable patients, and unhelpful or even hostile staff-to-patient interactions. Complaints also cover lost items, unresolved complaints, neglected follow-ups, and a perception that the hospital is not held accountable. While the trust has received recognition in some specialist areas, negative direct experiences at The Royal London dominate these reviews.

Based on these accounts, Barts Health NHS Trust faces significant challenges with its reputation, particularly among patients in London. Reports of unsafe or disrespectful care and lack of basic service responsiveness undermine trust, although there are references to isolated pockets of caring staff and notable clinical achievements. Overall, Barts Health’s local reputation appears strained by consistent reports of operational failings.
