I had a very disappointing experience with Smartest Energy. An agent contacted me a couple of years ago, and we had a short conversation over the phone. After that, I never heard anything from them again – no invoices, no calls, no communication at all. Naturally, I assumed the gas supply was not processed and that my account was with another provider. Two years later, out of nowhere, I received a call from their credit control team claiming I owed over £10,000. I was absolutely shocked. For two years, I hadn’t received a single invoice or update, and then suddenly I was faced with an outrageous demand. We are a company that uses very minimal gas, yet we were charged around £700 a month. Later, I found out this included their agency commission, which was never explained to me. In reality, our usage should have cost about £70 a month – meaning thousands of pounds were unfairly added on top. This feels like nothing short of exploitation. I cannot understand how a company can fail to issue invoices for years and then suddenly claim such a huge amount. The lack of transparency, communication, and fairness is unacceptable. I would strongly advise any business to think very carefully before signing up with Smartest Energy.

We were shocked by the sudden increase in our Direct Debit based on estimated values, but Sandra resolved the issue almost instantly. I explained that we submit our meter readings monthly and had never reached the amount suggested in the new increase. Sandra carefully reviewed our account and adjusted the payments to a much more reasonable sum. She was polite, understanding, and efficient throughout, and the result was exactly what we would expect from a reputable company.

6 months of chasing for an amended opening reading and not a single response even from the customer complaints team, until out of the blue I received a £7,500 bill. 20 mins on hold and I discovered that the account had been reset based on the correct opening reading and I should have received credit notes to offset much of that huge invoice. Of course I didn't, and instead got a massive shock. Incompetent and useless customer service
