My birthday is coming up, and I decided to take a risk and go to a salon after about 10 years. I have been doing my own color at home for around 5 years, but I wanted to try something new.
The prices for coloring/ styles are not available on their website, so I called to book an appointment and consultation.
I had a 12:30 appointment for hair color. I arrived at around 12:36, yes a bit late, but soon I would find out that didn’t matter. After waiting almost ten minutes, someone came to do my consultation. I asked for three colors, showed some reference photos. Then she left to get a price breakdown. 10 more minutes.
I was told I could get colored, a steam treatment, styling and trim and it would be around $550
OR
I could do what they call an “in and out” which is color, steam, trim and no style for around $400.
These were both out of my price range. Far more than I was expecting to pay. I asked Tally, the stylist if I could forgo the NINETY FIVE dollar steam, because I felt I didn’t need it.
I was then taken back downstairs to speak to the “Master”. I am a young person, but I have been SUCCESSFULLY taking care of my own hair for years, and I did not appreciate being talked down to about the steam. I think they just wanted the money.
We agreed upon $350 for my color, trim, and the “necessary” steam.
At 2 pm I was in the coloring chair, and they switched my stylist from Tally to another stylist whose name I did not catch.
She barely said a word to me throughout the first lift. She bleached only my roots and finger combed through my hair roughly. I felt and heard breakage, and she even wiped the brush full of bleach directly on my ear.
Then I was placed under the dryer. You should not put hair with bleach in it under a dryer, by the way. This can causes scalp irritation and further breakage. I told her it was burning and then she proceeded to ask if it was burning or tingling, as if I was a young child and could not tell the difference.
The first bleach was very poor. I also must say I was not given a mirror throughout this entire process to look at my hair.
I wanted to leave after she rinsed the first bleach, but she mixed the bleach without me knowing then started the second lift of the shafts of my hair. She also brushed my hair, post bleach, also very roughly.
I asked not to be put under the dryer again, but she said that is how they do it, so she turned the heat down for the second process.
Cut to around 3:40 PM
My bleach was fully washed out by Tally, which was the most peaceful part of the process, I asked to leave without the steam, or dye, so I could do it myself at home. Thankfully the “Master” I had spoken to earlier wasn’t there to object.
I ended up leaving at 4 PM.
Overall, it was an uninviting experience. I will not be coming back, and I will not be going to another salon for a while. The price gouging mixed with the wait times, and the looks I got from people who worked here, did not make me feel welcome at all unfortunately.
In the end, I spent four and a half hours to get half of my service done, and I was left with a whopping $206 to pay just for two bleach sessions, after receiving services from people that were definitely new, but in no way masters.
I left with a plastic cap on my hair, but saved a few hundred $.
