Reviews Summary

Overall sentiment toward Walgreens pharmacy services, especially in San Carlos, is predominantly negative, with repeated references to inefficient processes and poor customer service. Reviewers consistently note long wait times, understaffed locations, and dismissive or unprofessional staff interactions. Some mention a lack of transparency in pricing and inconsistent experiences between online and in-store purchases. Isolated positive feedback is given to specific employees who performed well amid challenging conditions.

The most frequent themes across reviews include delays in both pharmacy and photo services, communication breakdowns, and confusion about prescription readiness or insurance coverage. Multiple reviews refer to staff being overwhelmed or untrained, with only rare exceptions where individual employees provided courteous assistance. Locations in San Carlos and occasional reference to San Mateo suggest that experiences may vary by branch, but negative trends are prominent.

Based on this feedback, Walgreens' reputation for pharmacy and related services in the San Carlos region is seen as inconsistent and generally below expectations. While isolated staff members occasionally receive praise, the bulk of customer sentiment points to significant operational and staffing challenges, impacting overall trust and satisfaction for pharmacy customers in this area.

Deceptive Pricing! Inconsistent and inflated in-store pricing compared to their own app. I had a really disappointing experience at my local Walgreens that left me feeling frustrated and disrespected. I used the Walgreens app to place a pickup order and had three items in my cart with clearly listed prices for pickup or delivery: Arm & Hammer Saline Spray – $7.99 online / $11.99 in store Ricola Lemon Mint Lozenges – $5.99 online / $7.99 in store Sudafed Pain & Pressure – $10.99 online / $17.99 in store When I went in-store, due to ID being required for the Sudafed, I asked if they could match the pricing from the website (which I showed them directly from my Walgreens account cart), and I was told by the cashier to speak with someone in the photo department. I did, and unfortunately the experience only got worse. Three employees saw me standing there and walked away without even acknowledging me. When someone finally returned and spoke to me, they told me there was nothing they could do. The tone and dismissiveness from the staff felt unprofessional and unhelpful. It’s incredibly frustrating that Walgreens would advertise significantly lower prices online and then refuse to honor them in-store. If I hadn’t known better, I would have paid over $13 more than I needed to — and the staff seemed indifferent to that fact. When I explained I'll have to shop somewhere else, the representative shrugged. Wow. I did buy the Sudafed for $8.00 more, due to it requiring ID and I'm truly not feeling well enough to drive somewhere else further from home today. :( I really wanted to support my local Walgreens, but this experience made it clear that customer service and transparency are not a priority here. I won’t be returning and do not recommend if you have other options.

I've heard many complaints about Walgreen's Pharmacies. Nevertheless, I decided to have my dentist fill a prescription at the San Carlos location mostly for the convenience of the location. While in line, two patrons were speaking to the pharmacy employees about how they always seem to mess up their Rx and how their records are incorrect. This was a bad sign. When it was my turn, I was asked the standard information required. I was informed that the Rx was in, and because it was a "controlled substance" (it was 600mg of Ibuprofen) they needed to check my ID. They took a copy of my driver's license and told me to "Give them 5 minutes." I gave them 20 minutes, as I shopped around the store. I came back to the pharmacy to inquire how much longer it was going to take. A different employee helped me. After asking for the same information, he told me that they were still waiting for my doctor to put in the Rx. By this time, I was through waiting. I had just had a dental procedure, I was in pain, and now I was given conflicting information. This, combined with watching other patrons be completely frustrated with this pharmacy's inefficiencies, made me give up. I thanked him and left. Never to return. If you need an efficient pharmacy and value your sanity, I would not recommend this location.

I’ve never been treated worse by a pharmacist than I was today. 6:45am at the drive-thru. 5 minutes after pressing the call button, David/Daniel (one of those names) arrives and immediately says, “Yeah? Yeah?” Great start. I tell him I have a prescription to pick up. He tells me to turn off my car engine because he can’t hear me. I do exactly that. Give him my name and date of birth. He says there are no prescriptions. I tell him that my app states it’s ready. He then says he found the prescription and that it requires prior authorization. I tell him I already acquired that a month ago and that I already purchased the exact same prescription from this pharmacy last month. All the while, he speaks over me, and condescendingly asks me, “Do you know what a prior authorization is?” I stare at him for a split second. “Yes, I do know that that is. And I already got that.” He then repeats himself and I have to interject at this point. I explain again to him that I already have the PA, and he goes silent checking the computer. After a minute of silence, I tell him, “If it’s not ready yet, I can come back later.” He ignores me. More painful silence passes as he realizes he’s probably mistaken and finds my prescription with the PA. “Yeah we don’t have it yet, maybe come back later.” At this point, I just really want to drive away, so I respond, “Oh okay. Thanks.” This was disgusting. The only reason I go to this pharmacy is because it’s one of the few that accepts Kaiser insurance. Do better.
