Reviews Summary

The overall sentiment in the reviews for The Car Buying Group is predominantly negative, with several reviewers sharing experiences of frustration and dissatisfaction. Common feedback includes poor communication, last-minute price reductions, delayed or missed appointments, and unresponsiveness after issues are raised. While there are references to helpful staff and rare positive experiences, negative patterns around transparency and reliability dominate the feedback, with some customers explicitly recommending others avoid the company.

Frequent themes include price offers being reduced at the time of car collection, challenges with contacting the company after the initial sale agreement, and persistent follow-ups even after customers opt out. One exception highlights an efficient and honest transaction at the Wakefield branch, suggesting service consistency may vary between locations or personnel. A small number of customers report smooth experiences with friendly staff and prompt payment, but these are outweighed by reports of unfulfilled guarantees and stressful processes.

Overall, The Car Buying Group's reputation appears mixed to negative across its service areas, with reliability and transparency being recurring concerns among customers. Instances of professional, straightforward transactions are present but comparatively rare. In summary, the company is not broadly regarded as dependable or customer-focused based on recent reviewer feedback in the UK automotive trade sector.

I had a truly dreadful experience with The Car Buying Group. After reluctantly accepting a very low offer for my car, I was told the vehicle would be collected in two days. That didn’t happen – apparently, there were no available slots, and the collection was rescheduled. After receiving the car report, I informed them (well in advance) that a yellow warning light had appeared. I sent multiple messages about this – all of which were ignored. They replied to other queries but completely dodged any reference to the warning light, despite my specific request to confirm the driver would be aware to avoid any problems at collection. On the day, the driver turned up two hours late, only to immediately say he wouldn’t take the car because of the warning light – the very issue I had tried to flag several times. I explained the reason behind it and confirmed the car was perfectly drivable, but this made no difference. What followed was a farcical chain of phone calls, back-and-forth questioning about who I’d informed, and ultimately – they refused to take the car. I was then asked to forward emails and messages as proof, which I did – but received no reply, no apology, nothing. Total waste of time, completely unprofessional, and deeply frustrating. They are happy to ignore you once they get what they want. I strongly recommend avoiding The Car Buying Group – not worth the hassle.

Offered a ‘guaranteed’ price and then reduced it massively on collection, after I had taken the day off to be at home to meet them. I acted in good faith and believe that they did not. The guy who came to collect me told me that they do this every single time. Without fail. Do not trust this company.

I obtained a valuation from them which was 6 thousand less than what I wanted.. fair enough as they buy it cheap for a higher mark up for resale. So then I decided not to proceed with them and sell the car privately which took 2 days. I am now getting called EVERYDAY from them. I have blocked their number and their emails are going to my spam but they're persistent on leaving voice mails. I didn't want to be contacted and I don't believe I ticked anything to say I wanted to be contacted or to subscribe regarding the evaluation or I would have booked an appointment. Please stop blowing up my phone, If I haven't picked up for the last 5 days.. I'm not going to on the 6th.
