I’ve been going to DC Writers' Salon events for the past year, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a writing community in DC. I've gotten more writing done since joining than I have in years. Ali, who runs the salon, is so passionate about the group and leads it fantastically.

Space is very comfortable, well-lit during the day, well-furnished (the chairs/couches not only look nice, but are actually great to sit in!), and well-stocked with all sorts of great snacks and refreshments. Ali does a great job of creating a welcoming atmosphere that helps folks get settled and focus on their writing, and at facilitating connections with other writers (e.g., organizing casual social hangouts at the salon or elsewhere in DC). Everyone I've met has been friendly and happy to connect with fellow writers, and there are varying levels of commitment - some people come multiple times a week almost every week, others might drop in 1-2x a month. Whatever your speed, definitely recommend coming to check it out!
